Went out to Jordan yesterday and started out spider rigging with the intention of pulling cranks later in the day. Well trolling motor went out on me around 10:30 (TM breaker keeps tripping on me) so I fired up the big motor and started pulling. Ended up catching a 12" crappie, small catfish and a 3.5 lb bass on the cranks. I don't have line counter reels but I've marked a 10 foot spot on the boat and use that to gauge my line length. Just doing the best I can and trying to learn as I go. On the plus side fishing during the week is at least peaceful without the pleasure boaters.

The only way to learn is try. Looks like you trying ! Congratulations.
Great post. Enjoyed it with those nice pics. Power pro produces a line called depth pro hunter. It is a multi colored fishing line. Every 25 yards is a different color with blk marks every five yards. It has four main colors so when you come full circle you know you have 100 yds out. Might try a spool. If your spools are large compacty, fill half the spool with cheap line and then finish the spool with depth hunter. Connect the two lines with an Albright knot.
