    Default Tims Ford 6-23-18

I fished Middle Tennessee Crappie Clubs tournament this past weekend with one of the other members. Started the day at 6 am. Partly cloudy skies, 82 deg water temps that had been cooled from heavy rains the days proceeding. Started out at a spot that was covered up with fish that we most definitely spent way to much time on. We marked fish from 8-16 ft but could not get them to hit. 1 dink and 1 yellow bass to show for 2 hrs worth of effort. We made a move to a couple more deep water spots with nothing. Then found some fish in 25 ft of water 12 ft down but was only able to get 2 keepers out of it after 2 more hours Now we are at 10 o'clock and the tournament is over at noon. We decided to head up rive as the lake lice were coming out strong on the main lake. We are tooling along about 28 miles an hour, as fast as the old bass tracker will take us, and we pass by a boat on the left that is pulling 2 kids on tubes. Didn't think much of it until my partner points to the left and I see a3 ft wake coming at us. I turned to the left and bam we hit the wake hard. Boat went up and came slamming back down. Whew that was close. My partner said that those boats have ballast in them that lets them take on water and create a larger wake. Should be outlawed. Didn't think there would be many people up river playing but I was wrong. We couldn't hardly fish anywhere up that way. Went back to the main lake to finish the day and was fishing around a dock when another one of those wake boats came by. Another 3-4 ft wake coming right at us. I tried my best to point the bow towards the wake but the trolling motor was coming out of the water as much as it was in. We got washed into the trees and my partner was holding on to a dock cable to keep us out of them. That was it for me. Headed back with only 2 fish to weigh in. Funny thing about it was that the lake lice were still putting in when we were leaving and a side ways blowing wind came up and dropped about 2 inch's or more of rain in about 30 minutes with 30-40 mile an hour winds. Hope they got soaked. Check out the Middle Tennessee site for the winners of the tournament. It sure wasn't us.
    Be careful, stay safe.

At least you caught a couple. I too saw one of those boats a couple weeks ago. The young whipper snappers were wakeboarding on a short bungee rope about 6 ft long on the pressure wakes that looked to be 3ft high. They were very talented, acrobatic, and put on a good show but No Thanks.

Better luck next time. Sorry about the lake lice. Makes it almost impossible to fish on the weekends.

Congrats on not being put in the water or slammed into trees. Enjoyed your report. Glad you got in before the rain.

The lake lice are bad on Percy Priest too. I put in early and leave by 11 AM most weekend mornings to avoid them. I'd like to see those wake boats outlawed as well - looks like they could cause erosion damage with all the waves. At the very least I'd like to see them limited to a certain section of the lake so we can fish a little later.
