The garmin striker plus units have what they call Quickdraw mapping that allows you to make your own maps plus save waypoints, the older Strikers didn't have the Quickdraw feature.
From what I'm seeing .... the Garmin 7sv does not have any actual "map", just a white background that you can set a waypoint on to return to, but not a "base map" (blue area designating water). If it doesn't have a map chip slot, then mapping capabilities are absent.
Here's what they consider your GPS mapping capability :
And, also .... according to the Garmin webpage, this unit is "discontinued".![]()
Yes you are correct. Found it for 400.00 That's what my budget is. I understand that the lakes that I fish in would only have a base map on the other units.
For $400 have you looked at the Lowrance Hook 7 tripleshot? Looks like a real nice unit for the money and fits your budget. Has chip, side and down scan with gps. I see Basspro has it for $399 with free shipping. Hopefully one of the sponsers on here could do the same.
The discontinued Garmin 7sv and 7cv striker units you guys are talking about have been replaced with the Striker plus units, basically the same thing but with the addition of the quickdraw mapping that works alot like the autochart from Humminbird. There's no card slot but it has a large internal memory for the maps you create,I been messing with mine for a few weeks now and I think it works pretty good.
