    Default Crappie Report - 6/2/2018 - Back River/Bushy Park

Saturday my wife and I decided we wanted a something a little more challenging than slaying bream at Goose Creek Res so we headed for Bushy Park to longline jigs for crappie. It's the first time we've tried it and I don't know all the dos and don'ts, but I'm learning. We started searching ledges where we found them bunched up on the bottom in the winter. We saw fish on the graph but couldn't get them to bite and I wasn't sure if we were too shallow or too deep. We got things tangled up a couple times, but that was fault of the TM (operator) for stopping or turning too quickly.

Finally moved to a different spot and switched to 1/16 oz GoGo Runners + SlabSauce. It was if a switch was turned on. Both of us started nailing 1 or 2 on each pass. In the end we had our personal take home limit of 10 and a few more by noon. We found them in 20 fow suspending at 11-14 ft.

Thanks to the great info found here we had a very successful trip. I wish I had some pics to post but I left the phone at home by mistake.

I know the area well, and it can be a real hot bed for fast paced crappie action. Goose creek reservoir can be even better. Just troll over the many ditches where the water depth changes from 5-6 feet to 8 to 10 feet. White perch can aggravating, but ample crappie and big bull bluegill will be had. I love the area, but hate the two hour ride to get there. Congrats on the fine catch and report.

We spent the winter slow trolling double minnow rigs, catching enough to keep us reasonably happy. With the local bait shop minnow supply running very low right now it was nice getting some on jigs.
