Be careful when you do that. Had a good friend swim for his and we found him 100 yards down the ditch about 8 hours later. His boots was on the boot ramp with his wallet in a boot and the truck was still running 6 hrs before we new something had happen. No boat is worth it back up and think about it. Always keep a 100 ft of small line with a water bottle in your truck and this works I know first hand!

Dang. Sorry about your friend. Explain what you do with the line and water bottle, please.

Worked a drowning on Enid where a guy went after his boat due to a broken tow line . Glasses, billfold and cigarettes were left on the tool box . He was at the end of the ramp. If you ever have this happen at a c.o.e. lake call the office and they will put a boat in if one is not on the lake .

This is how I do it with the line and water bottle. Take the line and tie it to neck on a full water bottle and swing it and launch it at your boat and more than likely it will hang on something then slowly pull it back to you. It does work I know first hand. When I was in the Coast Guard we used what they called a Monkeys fist to pull lines and catch stuff. Hope this helps somebody out of a jam sometime. Thanks for asking!

Thanks a lot. I’ll definitely keep that handy.

Daggum, that's a heck of start to a fishing trip, sounds like my venture to the lake. Never had a bow rope break while launching, but I keep waiting on it. Best you can do is inspect and retire your ropes as needed. My worse fear is it happening when its real cold, the water temps could kill you even if you wore a life jacket. And as far as waiting on a boat to come or calling the corp, not sure about that either. If you launch at McCurdy on Enid, Engineers Point on Sardis, Bayou Point or South Abutment campground on Arkabutla while they got the gates wide open pulling current, you just may lose the boat down river. Anyways, glad you made it out okay and got the boat back home.

I pulled my boat up to the landing and didn't secure it good Went to get the truck. A gust of wind sent it sailing. I impulsively went in after it. Fortunately it didn't go too far. Waste deep.
