    Default Still Whack’en Them

It’s been sort of an odd spring, but plenty of fish are being caught on Santee. The troll and tight line bite hasn’t been good for me this year. On the other hand the shallow and deep vertical jig bite has been very good. The fish aren’t everywhere, but if you can find the areas the fish seem to be gathering in you can whack’em. In my case, I seem to be picking the right spots at the right time as I haven’t had a bad trip yet this year. Tommy and I limited out Thursday and Friday last week, I went solo last Saturday and again this Friday with a box full of fish for my efforts. Some real nice fish are being caught as well. Not many pics have been taken, but all results were similar to this pic taken from the Friday the 13th trip.

    Great report as always Tim.
I'll be down end of the month at friend's cabin at Stumphole. Mostly bream fishing but might try the crappie also.

Congratulations Tim! Glad y'all had good trips.
Ray I may be down that way 1 day that week. I watched a video with that guy Whitey Outlaw and the way he was fishing in that vegetation looked fun to try. Tim would that still be away to catch them right now still? Thanks. I have the last full week of April off always take the week of my birthday.

Fishing the grass mats is not for everyone, seasoned grass fishermen even have issues at times but the results can be phenomenal when conditions are right. Good grass in the right water depth is actually hard to find. The mats Whitey fished in that video are no longer in existence. I’ve been catching some real nice fish for over three weeks out of two mats I found. But spawning carp got in there and destroyed them. Grass can be good any time of the year! But remember, just like open water fishing.....90% of the fish will be located in a small 10% area of the grass mat. So, if you don’t fish right area of the mat, you won’t get any bites.
