Thread: Lake Hartwell Question

Yes Lake Hartwell is at full pond right now with plenty of water in all parts of the lake, the boat traffic will depend on what part of the lake you are on and when. You can pretty much plan on pretty good amount of boat traffic on a weekend in the summer but if you are going to be there during the week you should have the lake pretty much to your self.

yes we'll be there all week, usually it runs Saturday to Saturday; or Sunday to Sunday; with most sites you pick your days... Thanks that's the info I was looking for, Glad it's full, last time I cross over on 85 it looked like a desert.

It's full now but that can and probably will change big time by August. Once the demand for summer power cranks up the Corp of Engineers will begin pulling hard. If it's a slightly dry summer you can expect the lake level to drop at least 5 feet and probably a little more. Just be careful renting in the back of a cove or on really flat lot. When I have rented lake houses on VRBO, I try to look on the navionics web site and see what the topo is like in the lake where the dock is located but I still got burned on Clarks Hill last year with a dock sitting in only 2 feet of water.

tiger, that's what I'm a little afraid off, and that why I asked, they pull it down in summer to make Electricity ( I totally understand that process )

Stump, will do we're just looking and that's the one lake I've never put a boat in so that why I'm thinking about coming that way.

If you are crappie fishing in July, i would imagine it will be very tough fishing. If you get a place on the Georgia side, up tugaloo, i would try to get closer to eastanole creek. that is more stained water area and probably not as many pleasure boaters. Hartwell is tough fishing for all species in July, in my experience.

X2 on what khnc said. You can google lake levels for the state you want, and monitor it daily if you desire. Coe has to keep fairly close to spring water levels until spawn is over. Started fishing when lake was first built, clear water can be tough. Try to find stained water up creeks, or if you are a night fishermam, fish under bridges.

I believe all 3 of the lakes (Savannah River chain) are at full pool right now. More rain forecasted as we speak too. The lakes are in better shape now than in the past several years IMO.
