    Default Saluda Lake

I had a few hours yesterday afternoon so I drove to Saluda Lake since its only about 12 miles from my house. I have only fished there about 4 or 5 times in my life and I have never had any luck with crappie and yesterday was no different. I longlined for miles in all different depths and at different speeds, fished brush, shot docks, and the banks. Tried everything and could not find a single crappie just a small bass and catfish. I think yesterday was strike three on that lake for me, I think i will stick to my regular lakes from now on. I had always heard stories of some monster slabs on the lake in years past but I guess they have moved on.

I have fished the lake for the past 10 years or more and have never caught a crappie over 12'' long. A good many short crappie can be caught and also longlining don't work well on that lake but you will snag a few if you pull and pull and pull I fished two small lakes this weekend Fri/Sat and the crappie bite was dead on both small lakes with only one crappie being caught in over 12 hours of fishing. The bass was biting along with a cat or two.

Fish the rock walls and docks for the best bite, at lease that is where I have the best luck.

Yes if I think I was wanting to catch fish I would try places where I catch fish.

I’ve tried to catch bait on Saluda with no luck either. Very shallow in places and seems silted in. Some lakes just don’t set up well for long lining.

That’s my story on Lake Summit for crappie as well. How is saluda for bass these days? Heard it was pretty good.

It has some very nice bass fishing. Surprisingly some Hogg’s in the lake.
