Nice crappie sundance. I'm going by myself to high rock tomorrow , did you catch her on the bank or little deeper water ? I fished Saturday at high rock and found them in deeper water

Biggest crappie I've ever caught. I've caught them longer but this thing was wider and thicker than any I'd ever seen. Don't know how much she weighed. Didn't have a scale with me.

That's a great fish! Thinking about High Rock next FRiday. Any help on depths and colors?

Thanks nccater! I don't want to give up too much..
Fish are scattered at the moment. Some deep and some shallow. Some males setting up shop. Some females checking out the new homes being created trying to decide what they want to do....where.
Think about what parts of the lake are warmer and you may find them shallow on general flat bottoms. The best places are always where small holes create a depth change that break up the wind and current effects on their new beds.
Not all crappie spawn at the same time. White crappie tend to go a little earlier than black crappie and the spawn will last several weeks depending on the the weather and different areas of the lake will "go" at different times.
I don't know what this cold snap coming is going to do to them. I suspect those that have setup shop will pull out for a short time depending on how cold it gets and how long it stays that way. Shallow water off of deeper water doesn't change temps as dramatically for long periods of time.
The "High Rock stain" has always favored dark bodies and chartreuse tails. I don't think you can go wrong with those colors at most any time.
Minnows will always "out fish" jigs shallow. Casting jigs just don't stay in the strike zone long enough unless they are really active.... and they have something holding their attention already....
Just my penny.
You gave up to much info when you posted a picture and mentioned High Rock! But that's fine I like pictures. Hope you get some more PB's in the weeks to come. Nice Crappie
