Default Are we going to get a break???,

Horrible flooding. Now snow and more rain. Had to go to Alabama to catch crappie. Sunday looks better so hoping to get out. Might sneak out during the week next week also to T-Ville.

.... hardly !! Now, 2 & 3 years ago many people were catching 12-14" fish left and right, last year not so much. But, last year it flooded a bit during the spawn & the up/down water levels & conditions probably didn't help much, either. This year the flooding occurred early, but who knows what April will bring ??

This will be the first year that a 10" size limit will be in effect, so it's gonna take a few years before we see if that has a +/- effect. But, to think that the lake is "fished out" ... uhhh, no.

I agree. Two or three years ago you could catch some real slabs and have your limit in no time. Last year I was still catching my limits but it took a lot longer. I would guess half my fish were short ones last year, which is a good thing. Give it a year or two and they will grow up. Plenty of crappie with plenty of food. Definately glad they raised the size limit. Wish most lakes would go larger and stop decreasing the number you can take.

I have not been to Kentucky Lake since they lowered their limit. Don't like the fact that it takes that many hours to get there and knowing no matter what I can only keep 20. Wish they would have increased it to 11" size limit instead so I still had a chance at 30 even though more difficult chance. I'm a supporter of slot limits also. Releasing all that are say 15" to 17". That still let's you keep some 2lbers but releases a lot of them. Bigger fish, more eggs. More eggs, more bigger crappie.

The bigger fish in the big lakes are at the end of their life cycle for the most part. If you want to give back to the resource, increase your personal size limit to say 11" because the smaller fish have more spawning years ahead of them than putting back those big, fat 15, 16, 17" slabs that could end up dead in weeks or months.
It's a rewarding experience to know that your keeping better quality fish, still getting your limit or the goal number for the day or enough for a meal, and giving back to the resource by releasing fish under 11". Some folks look at me as I'm nuts, but I use that extra time on the water as learning, and gaining knowledge.

I totally agree on increasing limits up to 11". Many people would complain but I believe it would be best. As for slot limits, I just tossed it out there. Your opinion makes since but I've heard others who support it that make good points. I've read articles that support both sides. I have no clue what the true science is in Kentucky waters. One I read was for Minnesota and one Alabama. Neither of which have our growing season. I then look at all the slot limits that are imposed across the nation for other types of fish and makes me wonder.

Regardless, toss the small ones back. More enforcement of the size limits with license checks would do more than anything we discuss on here. We need more game wardens but that inst napping with this administration.

Slot limits wouldn't work for crappie because their typical life span is 7 years if it was to escape the magnitude of jigs, minner hooks, and crank baits during all of those years.
You don't have to wait for the state to impose a 11" size limit, just do it on your own. It takes discipline, but it is very rewarding. It won't take long for you to realize why would you keep a 10" fish when there is so much difference between a 10" and 11" fish.
