It definitely takes some getting used to swapping from a foot controlled to a remote trolling motor. I bought a foot petal that hooks to mine and that helps when bass fishing.

What type of trolling motor do most of you use when long lining? I am having trouble getting used to a Motorguide Wireless trolling motor and the wireless remote does not seem to work every time I push the button. I have th hand held and foot pedal. This is very aggrivating when bass fishing around behind stuff in close quarters. I am used to a regular foot controlled trolling motor, but don't think I want to go back to one as I am wanting to try long lining. Thanks.

Is your foot pedal wired? I had thought about looking at a wired with a long cable. Fished a bass tournament yesterday and it was very aggravating. I will look up your trolling motor..Thanks
I was the same way. I bought a Minn Kota. I have learned to like it and when my buddies are fishing with me they link there controller to mine and use both remotes for same trolling motor. That way if I'm fighting a fish they can take control of boat. But it is a little aggravating when fishing brush piles when the wind is blowing. Thinking about upgrading to auto pilot with spot lock

My TM has a plug on it where you can hook a foot petal up. Also nice if remote batteries die and you don't have any with you.
I used a Terri a and switched to ulterra there is a learning curve for sure. You have to learn to turn before you ever get there.

It is tough to change from a fast positive foot control, but worth it to me, If bass fishing or bream fishing, I use the foot control, but only the lower positions- with my toes. Takes a little getting used to, but, will do.
I don't know about the others but the older Motorguide Wireless like I bought on this boat does not have a directional arrow like most foot controlled so at night it will be hard to know which direction it is headed. Also when you turn it on you can not tell what speed it is set to like I could on my foot controlled. On these other model remote controlled units how do they handle these issues? I am not sure I am willing to lay out for the Ultrex, or the wife will let me. One of my fishing buddies is not able to get around and it is almost impossible for him to run a trolling motor and I was hoping with the remote to be able to run my trolling motor from the back deck and let him fish the front deck some. Also it would let me control the trolling motor if I am long lining out the back.
