Default need help helix gps map

Hey guys. I got a si helix 10 g1. My problem is the maps. It doesn't show all of the rivers in blue like the lakes. It shows the red track but no blue background for the river and it's just in certain areas. Is this normal? thanks for all the help.

Are you using the built in base map or a mapping card ...??

The base mapping is not going to have the detail that a mapping card will have ...

HB can use LakeMaster or Navionics ...

Thanks Ricky. I kind of wondered if that is what was going on. I just use the base map that came with the unit. Which card do you recommend, the Lakemaster or Navionics? I fish in Ohio and Florida.

The detail on Navionics can be viewed here ... It is current data as of every day ...
    https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=e...key=oc~_FjgdzO

Be sure to also click the blue button in the lower left to view Navionics detail and Sonar Charts detail ...
    -----

You can find your lakes in the LakeMaster regional cards here (altho no viewing like Navionics) ...
    https://www.humminbird.com/general.a...d=1321&id=5847

LakeMaster adds mapping features that Navionics doesn't because HB parent company also owns LakeMaster ...

Lakemaster is my preference! If they cover the water they you fish.

Lakemaster was recommended by the Helix 10 seller and I like it. BUT, I continue to quest for every edge I can get and would spend more of my kids inheritance to buy a Navionics if it would be a noticeable difference. What say you Rickie?

Honestly I recommend having both ...and here's why ...

There is no possible way for a map card company's survey boat to physically be on every inch of every lake ... This creates "holes" of no data in their end result map product ...

So map card companies "interpolate" data for these "holes" in the product ... This interpolated data can be old Corps charts, leased data from other sources, software designed specifically for interpolating map data based on nearby contours, etc ...

What this means is all map cards (regardless of brand) will have inaccuracies in specific areas ...

If I'm in bay "x" - and the data on map card "L" is incorrect = I will insert map card "N" and check it for accuracy ...

Over time - I have learned which map card I'm going to be using for the area I'm fishing that day ...

Sure it's another $150 expense - but a good investment in my opinion ...

Good enough for me. Do you know a vendor from Crappie.com that sells them? BTW, where on Crappie.com do I go to find our vendors? Thx again.
