My 4 year old is begging me to take him fishing this weekend and I’m thinking about taking him to False River Sunday after the weather clears up. The MS River messed up Old River early this year so I’m trying to find a plan B. Haven’t fished there in years and only for bass. I’ve heard of some bream being caught but nothing recent and I don’t know where to try this time of year.

I would try the canals up north, and also that long canal off south flats

Fish with worms around piers. Will probably catch a few bream. Still early for them. Should catch catfish though. Not many crappie that I know of.
Thanks for the info. I ended up taking them to Bayou Barbary with no luck. Nice place and it sounds like it’s a good place to bring them bream fishing. Not sure about sac-a-lait. I might try False River soon but it’ll have to be before the summer. Not worth dealing with the boat traffic once it warms up.

LSU,
I used to do pretty good at False River. I’d put in at Boniventure’s and just start fishing! And channal canal used to be very good during the winter months, but then they started drawing the water down to low and it just has never been the same! I did get some reports that they bite pretty good this year! Also, there are a hand full of people that catch fish there...but they don’t talk much! I would not b afraid to try if I were u!!$

I’ll probably try it soon, especially since it’ll be a while before Old River is right. I know of some piers with Christmas trees sunk near them that I use to bass fish around on the north end. I remember seeing someone pulling in some sac-a-lait on a pier but that was probably 10 years ago. I’m sure they’re out there but hard to find.

Hey LSU, Many moons ago I'd catch em in da canals on the North (New Roads) end of da lake during the spawn.
I'm thinkin Sac DA needs to call up a Grand Jury and find out where these sacs are in False River.![]()
