    Default 3lber times 2 by Candi 3/09/2018

Around here a 3 lb crappie isn't all that common, but to catch 2 on back to back casts is almost unheard of. But, leave it to my number one student to do the impossible. Not only did her first two fish weigh 3 lbs or slightly better, she caught 3 in a row, but the third one was only 15.25" and weighed a little over 2 lbs. Skinny you might say.

What a great 3.5 hours of fishing that we did this afternoon, from 1:30 until almost 4 PM. We didn't catch all that many numbers, but our first 5 fish were all TARP sized fish. Candi's first 3 were 15.25", 16.5", and 15.25". Then I got in the ball game and caught a pair of 14.25" crappie. All the fish that we caught today were White crappie and fought like tanks. We also released all fish as well. Candi finally caught a couple of smaller White crappie. 13.5" and 12.25". Plus, she also caught a short fish.

To beat it all, she caught the biggest Drum today too taking the title of Drumking away from me. I caught one earlier and was bragging about it, then she proceeds to outdo me on that as well. But I love it when I get to be a great guide and my students do well.

She caught her fish on Ghastly Minnow slab slayers and 1/16 oz jig heads and a Bluegrass BG slab slayer. I caught mine on 1/16 oz jig heads with Outlaw Special. I tried Cajun Cricket, Eclipse, and Green Thunder, getting bites on a couple of them, but missing the hookup.

Water temp had fallen again to 51.7 degrees. Two weeks ago it was 63 in some places. Lots of rain and cold nights have dropped the temps dramatically and put the fish off that were beginning to move shallow. They still are moving back in the creeks some according to one of my buddies that fishes the creek, but have moved back toward the main lake away from the shallows.

Candi and I fished 14 feet of water in the main river today and the water had cleared up a lot. It was a beautiful green sandy color. Just perfect for fishing. SW wind about 5 mph, but it was a little chilly. We kept on our layers of clothing and we endured the little bite of the wind. But when you are catching big fish like we were, it doesn't matter. I was a good net man today and I loved it. We never lost a fish that was hooked up. I found the dropoff that we were looking for and the graph only showed very few fish, but as it turns out, they were tanks. We dropped a marker, set Crazy Ivan up into the wind and she kept me busy grabbing the net. I finally had to sit her up in the captain's chair so that I could get a cast in. When I did, I caught my two TARPS. LOLOL I hope that you don't mind a lot of pics.
