You hit the nail on the head when you said pressure. When a fish gets to be 10 inches he is on the way to Ky., Ohio or parts unknown. I have said many times that the limit needs to be cut in half or there needs to be a boat limit.

Don't know how they can enforce it but Ala. law says you cannot transport more than 1 days catch across the state line. Logan Martin is in a slump right now and crappie have been hard to catch for lots of folks over there for a couple of years. It should get better in a year or two. I would not mind if the creel limit was lowered and would like to see the size limit raised state wide to 10 inches. The problem with all this is that the state does not have enough people to enforce the laws properly. All this is just my opinion, everyone have a great day.

Here what I’m going to do,I’ve killed 14 fish this year. I plan to release all fish over 12 inches and I promise I will not kill a limit of fish this year , I don’t need that many fish and if I want to fish fry I will take a few no problem and I have no problem with anybody taken a limit but if we that fish that lake like we do would impose our own self limits of not taking those big fish out of that Lake maybe we might make a small impact I might be wrong just an opinion

I have mixed feeling about lowering the creel limit and would like to see maybe a slot limit . I know of some fisheries that is over populated with crappie and you mostly catch nothing but dinks. I personally like eating fish thats 9 1/2- to about 11” I do not like a strong fish taste so I don’t have a problem turning back the bigger fish everybody to their own . I keep what I need and I share with a lot of folks that’s not able to go .i sure don’t like wasting and I don’t understand why some folks keep so many . I have seen folks here on Guntersville keep a bucket full in the morning and then come back that evening and do it again! I’m sure it’s that way on a lot of lakes . But it amazes me how well some of these fisheries maintain such a healthy population of fish just like Weiss for an example my first trip their 2 yrs ago we lost count at 124 fish with only 14 being keepers they were only 3 boats in that area until folks figured out what was going on and they ended up being over thirty boats in that same area Way too much a crowd for me. And that was just one day and it’s that way over their 8-9 months of the year or more you would think it would be empty of fish but last Saturday with the tuff conditions they still managed to catch 1-1/2 # fish .

Creel limits, and length limits need to change, the fish don't seem to be here in the numbers that they use to be. Over the last couple of years, I have fished several creeks that I have always caught fish in and they have not been there. The creel limits need to be 15 fish per boat that is 30 fillets, I don't know of a family of 4 that could eat that many fillets in 1 meal. Most of it is just bragging, and greed.I try not to keep any fish that haves eggs in the spring, if I do then I try to keep the males and let the big girls go back. It is just my wife and myself so 2 or 3 fish are enough, but that is just me. It may get to the point as crappie fisherman we need to be more aware of catch and release, as the bass fishermen have found out.

All this talk of creel management and managing the species - is there clear and observable evidence the crappie population is suffering in Alabama rivers/lakes? Not trying to step on toes - just that one would believe the Alabama Dept of Conservation and Natural Resources would make a statement or initiate some sort of regulatory action if true.

John doe I'm with you the state knows what to do. I think there's plenty of fish the problem is the amount of people fishing now it crazy. If a fish move up on a brush pile he is in a live well in a few minutes. I just keep trying to adapt. I used to just fish a few different ways and could catch all the fish I wanted. Now I have to pull everything I know to catch the same amount of fish. I remember as a kid going to the river and you might see a few boats now you can't even find a place to park on a week day.
