I presently have a gen 1 helix 5 si. I believe I damaged the transducer and thinking of making a new purchase. Either a helix 7 chirp si g2 for about $610 and trade transducer for HD transducer for $ 85 totaling about $ 700 I understand I will not get 800 kHz but I’m told my picture would improve. In this case I would use the helix 5 for mapping waypoints not to split the screen on the helix 7.
My other option would be to stretch the budget and get the helix 10 si gen 1 for about $ 900.
At my age this will probably be my last fish finder.
Any opinions or other options will be appreciated

Go with at least a Helix 7 Bird. Like Dave said, your eyes will thank you later on. I had a Helix 5 DI in mint condition and sold to some younger eyes! I now have 2 7's, and they will be my last.....hopefully!

7" minimum - especially if you split screen.

If you didn't care to buy used, I noticed someone had an Onix 10 for sale on here. I would rather have a used Onix over a Helix Gen 1 because of the dedicated DI. The biggest draw back would be no warranty.
