I mounted mine one step higher, TD are to expensive to break them on a stump or log.
I have broke several.

Morning, fixing to mount my new transducer here after while. I have a step hull boat and would like to mount the ducer on the pad for on and off plane scanning. If I mount it on the step I will have off plane readings only. The only downside I can see of putting it down low on the pad is the possibility of it getting damaged or torn off on a stump. Any suggestions before I drill the holes? And yes it clears the rear trailer roller by a couple of inches, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I just mounted mine on the new Ranger last week. Our local install shop told me to remove the transducer from bracket and screw it straight to the bottom of the upper step. Mine would have stuck out past the step so I mounted like the photo. I did learn that on the lowrance units you can change the orientation of the side scan image on the head unit to match the left and right side. So, if you had to reverse the bracket, you can switch in in the menu settings. Hope that makes imperfect sense...

Mounting the xducer on the lower step and directly in front of the lower unit can cause cavitation (aerated water) ... resulting in the lower unit water intakes not getting enough water to properly cool the engine ...
Cavitation in front of the lower unit can be extreme enough to even cause the prop to loose it's "bite" in the water and "blow out" ...
It may be best to mount just outside of the transom intake hole ...

Thanks guys, I mounted it under the upper step. I will get out tomorrow and test it out, if no Bueno then I will move it.
