I love the idea of the pinned eyes!
I have a bunch of eyes and a bunch of heads with eye sockets and I just don't like messing with them. Main thing for me is I just don't believe they help catching fish, just fishermen. This is my own personal view and opinion so is just that. They look nice for sure, just prefer putting that Black dot on and fish!

They both look good, but I have to plead dumb on the pinned eyes. Can you show one before it's attached to confirm my idea? Thanks.

I'm still out in that theory. I used to think the same but slowly changing my mind. Maybe. Ha.
But if an eye can be put in a head, I'm putting it on there! It's like bacon on a burger

For me it's the difference between a simulator jig and a stimulator jig. If your tye is supposed to represent something alive - most living things have eyes. A stimulator can uses vibration - color - or anything to get a reactionary strike.
I tye jigs in the same pattern in different weights to fish the water column. The colored eyes on my jigs help to identify their weight;
phosphorus & blue for heavier jigs - colors that can be seen in deep water
My favorite (right now) is red/gold tear drop for shallow water & light jigs.
That doesn't mean you can't use blue - shallow or red - deep.
I don't think eyes are a gimmick - I catch a lot of quality panfish using them with Chub style jigs (simulator).
On the other hand - the Auto (stimulator), with no eyes, manages to catch as well.
side note on eyes;
just ordered a bunch of 3 mm tear drop eyes. Silver/gold, blue/silver, super pearl (weird twice the cost of the others), green/gold (froggy), and gold/silver. All these eyes have a black tear drop pupil. When they first came out with this style eye it was only in the red/gold.
Guys I just don't think the fish inspect that close and a Black dot will do as well as 3D eye, but that is just me and since I am older than dirt and my body is a lot older than that, I doubt I will have enough time to find out otherwise by trial and error, lol! Hey to each his or her own is my thinking, but I seem to catch as many as I need without the 3D eyes. So for me it's the Black Vinyl dot for an eye on the Roadrunners and Pony heads, well except for the 1/16 Oz Marabou 2 heads I have as they came with sockets for eyes and for the first time for me is these came with Brass Willow Blades with the Roadrunner imprint. The only thing I didn't like about these was they also came with a collar and if I cut the collar off they are closer to 1/16, but still more than 1/16, lol!
One ting in my mine is for sure, if you like and believe in the 3-D eyes, by all means you should use them as that will give more confidence and that is the most important part of catching!
Now LedHed you have an interesting set up where the eye color will say how heavy a jig is, that pretty cool idea.
