2 things to check: make sure none of the fuel lines have a hole in them. The tiniest bit of air getting in the fuels lines will cause that. If not, the high speed jet in the carb is probably clogged. Might could put a kit in it but Stihl carbs are cheap. You can get get a new one for under $50.

I just bought one for my Stihl weed wacker. It was about 20 bucks shipped.

And another thing....make sure you are using FRESH fuel. Amazing what havoc a little moisture in fuel can cause.

You’re probably right Barry. I like Wannabe’s idea. Get the boy over to finish it.

My MS 290 didn't sound like it was running right. I removed the hood to see the air filter had 1/2" of dust on it. I thought about washing it, better read some tech about it first. Scrape across to remove build up, don't poke. Spray across filter with carb cleaner and air, not toward. Clean area with carb cleaner and air before removing filter.
I thought about changing the filter, not at $16. I went to ebay, 6 for $8. We have 2 MS 290's and a MS 310.
