    Default Breakin Ice...

Got out again Yesterday on Maumelle. We played Ice breaker with the Ranger MPV 1760 and blazed the trail cutting through 1/2 ice out to the main lake from Sleepy Hollow... 2 other boats showed up and followed us out. We were Blessed to find the Blacks again, for the 4th consecutive trip over the last month. They were in and around 17 to 20 fow. Right off the bottom again. The main creek channel that runs the length of lake is good on creek bends for these crappie. Study of a contour map and good electronics is bout the only Way to get in the ballpark of locating the tight schools of black crappie at these many spots. I Caught them on 1/8 oz jigs in OD Green/Chartreuse tied in double tandom a foot apart with loop knots. This color combo beat out any other Midsouth or Bobbie Garland jig color or even minnows, which my buddy just had to have. He caught some in black and chartreuse Midsouth though. We ended the day at noon with over 40 crappie and some White and Black Bass along with one stray Blue Gill!! I gave all the Crappie to him as he joyfully loaded up that ice chest, which had three ducks in the bottom from yesterday's hunt. My WIFE pointed out We have no more room in the "game" freezer in the garage... guess we need to have a fish fry. Name: 20180120_130204.jpg

Yes. Normally we are at Jolly...We put in at SH because we ran a ground in main lake last week near Island. Lake is so low we didnt want to run main lake from Jolly R all the way to western end and take a chance of that again. Fished chimney area and straight across to channel at sunken bridge. ...all being on west end. But the creek was low and dangerous too. We did the smaller boat a favor cutting that ice...My boat has a 70hp. We are laying off there til the water comes back up we decided after this last trip. It's a good 4 feet down best I can tell And just too scary.
