I may not be the best person to answer this question but I do like someone else above said, I do it like I'd want others to do to me. When I'm heading out or moving I'm full throttle unless its hazardous. If I'm in a crammed up spot I really don't like getting off plane but sometimes on the rivers and oxbows you have to. If that's the case just take a deep breathe and crawl on by them. I move quite a bit and haven't been shot yet...well I've been shot at. Stay away from coon town
The one to watch is the 14' flat bottom with a 10/15hp motor running wide open right up to you or passing real close. Happens all the time.
Like others have posted.....full plane is how I want someone to come by me. And I go full plane by people. But....with that being said, For some reason people still get mad and think you didn't acknowledge them at all when coming by on full plane. They feel as if ur being courteous when you slow to half throttle and "wake" the crap out of them. Makes 0 sense to me.
There's been times so many boats on the lake if I went slow, I'd never get to my fishing spot.![]()

I can not take offence about the 14 foot tin boat [as none is taken] I also bought a 14 foot with a 25 hp w/ tilt & trim. Some lakes I fish has a 25 hp limitation and just because mine has trim does not make it true all motors have that feature. I feel blessed that I can get out to fish where the Crappie are. My reason for posting is because there are those like my brother thinks the tilt/ trim is for lifting the motor for launching and putting the boat back on the trailer. He never uses the Trim to make the most efficient use of the power. He has an 18 foot with 90 hp Alum. boat. when he tries to get on plane the bow is up for a thousand yards before it comes down . he thinks with with the boat riding with the bow up puts less of the bottom in the water and is better !!!! No common sense that it pushes the back of the boat deeper into the water causing mure drag and bigger wakes. The back of his boat sits 18 inches in the water, where mine sits 8 inches and can get into shallower water and in the trees.. anyway what I am trying to say is the folks use the trim feature to see what makes their boat run better !!!! If it does not have tilt, change the position of the pin that changes the angle that the motor sits when up on plane. More of the bottom of the boat in contact with the water is not a bad thing. It brings the bow down and there is better control.Tite Lines

I have boats go between me and the bank all the time at Washington and, as you said, even when I'm very close to the bank. They always run wide open but that's no consolation--when you're on fish that close to the bank it always roughs it up. Most of the time it's bass fishers but every once in a while it's a single poler hopping around.

I was @ Arkabutla this summer and found the fish and had a ski boat start driving circles around me. That put a end to the fish biting
