Wow! Nice mess of crappie fillets. That old girl that got away may have a bunch of little crappie next spring hopefully. So your loss may be your gain in later years.![]()

Got one last trip in this year to check on my river donkeys. The water has been high and muddy the last week or more, mostly due to heavy rains north of here. The level had stabilized somewhat and cleared up enough to be fishable. But the fish had moved considerably. I was catching them 18-21 feet deep on ledges with structure. Finally found these on top of a 13-14 ft deep hump. Go figure??? Why with the water colder than it previously was, and extreme cold temps coming on, would they go shallower? Plenty of baitfish where they were too. Anyhow, was glad to finally get on a few and salvage a poor day.i also lost the biggest fish of the day. Had one tangled in the net when a giant hit. Tried to lip it and got a real good look at her before she got off. Probably the best fish I had seen over there in a few years.

The last two early springs my intent was to start looking for fish 12 to 15 ft deep in different fow. The water was a little
muddy both years and the fish were at 4 ft. The water was warmer on top than it was deeper because it was muddy I
guess. I don't think anyone will ever figure them out from the recliner. It will always be trial and elimination. I asked a
biologist about why they were so shallow with the temp still being so cold. He didn't tell me anything. He just said because
that's where the bait was as he was walking off.
Nice Catch!!, better than what I been getting. Bout to cold for me to set still on dry land, much less on the water, prefer the house about now![]()
