    Default NWR Report 12-30-2017

Decided to hit the river today since it was the warmest day we are going to see for awhile. Well woke up and it was 25 degrees, so I took my time before hitting the water. Pushed the boat in the water at Bob's a little after 10:00am and had 38.7 degree water at the ramp. Went down river and the water temp dropped another degree not very encouraging. Round a few bends in the river getting close to the park and come up ice all the way across the river. Break through that and continue to open water. Started fishing around 10:40 and finished up at 2 pm. Ended up catching 15 crappie with 11 keepers in the 10 - 11.5" range. All fish were caught in VA waters. Most were caught 6ft down over water depths 8- 12ft. Did catch one female yellow perch around 11" long as well. Can't complain considering the conditions.

Thanks for the report. We were going to fish the Carolina side of NWR but chicken out due to water being so low. We ended up in the Pasq. River 29 Keepers in 17-22 feet fishing 12-15 deep. Pretty much same water temp.

Nice job. Had to work that day. Was hoping someone went out before the cold came.

Jim- If you were in the white aluminum boat. I believe I passed you when you were working the area below the park before you make the hard right going down river. Around 10:30am. I have a 1448 Alweld, and a 9.8 Nissan. No real distinguishing features other than the hand steer Minn Kota motor on the bow.
