    Default Getting started

I've tied squirrel tail and a few buck tail jigs before, but really just for bream and stripe. I've got a vice, bobbins, etc. but what materials do I need for crappie jigs? Anyone got a handy list of popular items?

I like rabbit and kip tail over marabou. Also tie some with silicone skirt material and a thread neck or chaneil. About anything you would tie for bream just upsize and brighter colors.

Bass Pro has a whole section devoted to Fly tying, What ever you see on Jigs that catch your Eye can be put to good use. The most important thing I believe you should get is the waterproof glue and use it in every step from start to finish. your jigs will not fall apart on the lake. Spend a few hours on U-Tube and go back often to see what others use and the names of what they use to Tie. Silicone Rubber that comes in flat precut strips make rubber legs comes in dozens of colors also give that Quivering motion Crappie have to see what it taste like. I once watched a man use a soda straw the kind that has the flexible bendable section and make a grass shrimp that looked just like a real shrimp that was hard to tell from the real thing side by side

Lets talk after this weekend as I really don't have time right now to get this done proper. PM me and after the first I can help with many things to help you on your way. Right off I would tell you to make sure to check out FAOL and their lessons, even thought it's flies they still tie in materials like we should. I know there are a ton of videos and all, but personally I believe in theses lessons for teaching us good info!

Click on Fly Tying, then Beginning, later Intermediate and finally Advanced.

Sounds good Skip. If I forget to PM you, please contact me. I'll likely sleep between now and next week which means I won't remember.
