Adam, you could contact John Miller with Marshall County Refuse Dept and see if they could have a set-aside place at the county refuse sites.

This is a list of our drop off sites this year. I have previously contacted most of the big box stores in our area, all of whom were very willing to donate unsold trees. Additionally the corps plans to collect some trees as well so we are going to partner with them on this project. Most stores expect to sell out, but we will collect as many as we can. Ky dam village horse stables is also a dropoff location. If we don't get a sizable number of trees we will supplement with freshly cut trees. Because of the potential corps partnership this year's trees will very likely be placed into lake barkley.

    Martin,

That was some good information. Do you guys supply this type of information with regards to some of the other fish in the lakes like bass, etc?

Our information has always been available, but in the past has only been presented to the public at public meetings. I think Paul did several thousand presentations in his career. With the new fb page we will be trying to get all of this information out there to our anglers. My hope is that our anglers are the most informed group of anglers in the country. It won’t all be good news.

I will post on Sunday about ky lake crappie including the results of the Creel this year. After that i will start with bass on both lakes. We record every species of fish caught in the Creel survey so we could spend hours just explaining that one survey.

One more thing I need to mention about the Barkley crappie video linked above. The age 1 crappie in 2017 was much lower than that graph showed. The graph was formatted incorrectly so it plotted the long term average instead of the actual 2017 data. It doesn’t change the take home message, but it does mean that the spawn in 2016 was awful. Same story in ky lake. When I post on Sunday I’ll start with a corrected Barkley graph before moving on to ky. We triple check our data for our annual reports so I noticed the mistake on Friday.

Unfortunately I’m not allowed to start a department YouTube channel, but if you guys want to keep transferring it there and posting it here that would be great.

The Kentucky River is full of them.
A guy here in Perry Park runs a guide service for bow fishing.

Note: We took our tree to the Lyon County Convenient Center and was told that they would take the tree but that it wasn't for the lake project. Being that I needed to get rid of it, I went ahead and tossed it in their dumpster.

Just found it odd that the fella working there told me that he wasn't taking trees for this project. Maybe he was uninformed? As it stands, he made me toss it in their Big dumpster.

Thanks for the heads up. It’s a new site and we had a failure to communicate which has been resolved. Lyon county convenience center should now be accepting trees. I’ll let you know if that changes. Adding the cabin bait and tackle as an alternate site next year probably wouldn’t be a bad idea🤔.

We have also arranged to get all of the Christmas trees donated in our southwest fisheries district (bowling green area). So we should have a pretty sizable number of trees for the project.
