No direct experience, but since you were running on 10, I'd lean towards one of the earlier comments. Probably a low voltage condition at the control head since you also said the remote would not respond. Motor probably went to it's "home" position, and kept running at whatever speed it was at when it lost it's mind. I play with electronics, and I've seen some crazy things happen during low voltage conditions. Let's hope it was just a fluke, and glad not too much damage.
