Default Launch question below Guntersville Dam?

Is there a launch on the south side of the river at Guntersville Dam? Me and my son are both off work tomorrow and want to go in the morning and would like to maybe fish below the dam. Last time I fished below the dam I put in in Decatur and ran to the dam, which is too far to run in this temperature of for me anyway.

Indian Creek Boat ramp will shorten it some on the North side and Ditto Landing Wii cut even more off from the South side. I am not familiar with the river any higher up but there may be one on the list that is better

Thanks guys I was really looking for information on the south side of the river. Looking at googlemaps it shows a ramp at the dam but I was wondering if it was open to public use.

Yes, unless it has changed recently, there is a public ramp on the south side. It's been years since I've been there though.

Yes there is a public ramp on the south side of the dam. Nice wide ramp. No dock or pier just a small retainer wall on the driver's side of the boat. Be careful with the water being low the ramp will be very slick.

What Gmann said. I've been wanting to go but fishing alone I don't know that I want to put my glass hull on the concrete to park the truck and then again to get the trailer back in the water to loa and leave. A pier would have to be concrete to survive flooding. Water has been a few feet deep in the parking lot a few times over the years.

Yep, it's been a few feet deep in the parking lot. A few years ago I was down there after a flooding rain and there was a mangled boat in the parking lot. It had ridden through the flood gates.

As the others said, the ramp is fine, but it's steep. Best bet is to put in, and putt around to the right and beach it on the dirt. Wind is supposed to be brutal tomorrow so keep that in mind, especially if it's out of the west, it will beat you up bad.

My first time loading a boat back on the trailer, on the south side ramp, was an humbling experience. I had the boat completely crossways on the trailer at one time. You've got to lead the trailer like you'd lead a dove with a shotgun while hunting. With a 20 mph wind and fast current it's surely a challenge.

I put in at Ditto landing and run up to the dam. I'm guessing it's about 15 miles.
