Correct. Both types have their place and usefulness as do much longer lasting types. In lakes with very little remaining cover these add cover for fry and juvenile fish and spawning sites for several species of pan and game fish.

In standing timber areas I have weighted the trunk of the trees, tied a cord to the top of the trees and loose loop around the timber before dropping them overboard. The trees stand up close to the timber adding cover for fry in deep water. Place a stick in the loop and work it around the timber to get the tree deeper.

Actually, still being buoyant so long as they are well and securely weighted even the lay downs could and did stand almost upright on steeper drop offs, being set in single or double rows from shallow (8') to deep (18') with longer lasting Osage Orange ( hedge Apple) and/ or PVC as an anchor. Somewhere in this setting there should be some fish at or near the thermocline. Happy Holidays to All !
