    Default Winter boat fishing

Maybe I'm just paranoid but what should I do to my boat to run it in the winter. I've read about lower units busting and such. Any suggestions would be helpful

Nothing I run mine during the winter and I don't do any thing different. If boat is left outside in freezing temp and rain you may want to get all the water out of the exhaust port by letting the motor all the way down and leaving it like that. If you have leaking seals on the prop shaft it will fill with water and could freeze but usually the lower unit will burn up. Check lower unit for water if it has water in it it will be cloudy looking.

I use mine during winter so no winterizing for me, but I don't do anything anyway. During super cold nights, I let my motor straight down to be sure it is well drained.

When you get it loaded back on trailer....trim your motor down to let the water drain out before you put your transom saver on.....then when you get home take transom saver off and trim motor down again and leave it down untill you go fishing again. Keep your batterys charged also.

All above! Most importantly, make sure you bring an extra set of "warm" gear to change into if you get wet.

Include a towel to dry off with. I have a complete change of clothes in a giant ziplock.

Lot's of great advice already posted. The only thing that I would add is that if you've got Ethanol gas in your tank, make certain that you add a stabilizer. I put treatment in the non ethanol that I run too, but it's a must in Ethanol fuel. I run it all year long.
