    Cool bait for catfish


    Hey Ya'll,
    looking to make trip to Monticello, coming from Rock Hill. Two questions 1. what's the best bait for catfish there? 2. is there any place to buy bait between here and there? this will be my first trip there any info would be most appreciated. Thanks

    We usually use cut shad or cut herring for cats. Also, we have used cut perch which stays on the hook better. Jimmy Jones at Lowery(right off 321) is where we normally get out bait. However, he was in a wreck & as far as I know, is still in the hospital. Don't know if anyone else is selling bait for him.

    About the only other option you have on buying bait would be JamieKs,just off hwy 21 in fort lawn.

    I'd look at the wind forecast before you decide to go. The wind is tough there.Be careful, have a safe trip and post us up some pictures of those light colored blues.

    There is a gas station on the way to the lake coming from Chester before you get to the main landing that sells the usual worms, etc. The Raccoon and I did well on Monticello on earthworms from his backyard and shrimp from IGA.

    I live 45 minutes north of Monticello. If I go below the Norway dam it's usually crawlers or liver (chicken or beef). But when I go a little bit further south and go below Oakdale dam I bring along some small sunfish. There's some BIG fish that lurk in there.
