Have they lifted the Crappie catch and release on the lower yet?
No. It's my understanding that it'll be open on January 1, 2018. You can go now and catch probably 50 nice crappie.......some two pounders..........just for fun. My parents and uncles/aunts used to own a cabin on Upper White Oak and from around 1985-2005 we all learned that end of the lake very well and found some favorite spots that we still fish today. That's where we fish 99% of the time. Crappie there are always dark colored, almost greenish gold and black........and you never catch a thin one. That water is super fertilized and it shows in the fish you catch there. GTT
Thanks for the update. Sounds like a road trip the next time I visit the in-laws at Laneburg.
Titans --- I stayed up on the upper lake during the 50s and 60s and my Daddy OWNED Nicks Landing. Paddles were what was used for Power, and the old creek channel through the flooded timber was the only way through. Trot lines ruled for Cats and Ruths Motel is where my Daddy had a camp

All of that is gone now, I guess. I was born in 1969 and have fished at White Oak since I can remember and Nick's Landing and Ruth's Motel don't ring a bell. Sorry. I do remember the bait shop on the hill at the levy separating the two lakes was called Jack's Landing. We went in there a lot of times to buy shiners and snacks; my Uncle George Stratton used to buy sardines and saltine crackers and I usually picked out a candy bar and a Coke. It's a small church now. GTT
Coming from Chidister, Ruths Motel was past the Fire tower Then first Road to the right. The Deer was thick as Fleas. When Daddy bought the store at the Dam he built the second Story on top of the flat roof then sold the place he had by Ruths. Later he bought some Property across the Lake just past the Fire Station. My Mom and her Sister Raised Red Worms and Shinners for Years. Like you said , All of that is GONE now.

Any up date on the crappie catch/release?
The lower lake is open and they're catching some good ones in 18-20 fow on jigs and minnows. Two friends have gone 5 times since January 1 and have caught (in order) 49, 41, 3, 7, and 29 fish. There were as many as 25 boats in an area the size of two football fields and they're either biting or they're not. Launch at the Iron Eagle Saloon and you won't even need to crank your big motor........just troll away from the bank about 30 yards and you'll be in the right depth. GTT
