    Default Coosa River schoolin

Lowe175 invited my son and I down to the river to show us how to properly shoot docks. He conducted a fishing clinic. He said it was a bad day, but we brought home 25 keepers and he probably caught 30 or more shorts. I thought it was a great day. I did contribute to the fish total in the livewell, I caught ONE keeper.

My son finally caught 2 short fish late in the day and I caught a total of 3 with 2 being short. I watched Lowe175 fish a while and I'm still not quite sure how he was determining he was getting a bite, but danged if he didn't have a fish most every time he set the hook. He said he didn't feel most of the bites but something just didn't feel right a lot of times and WHAM, fish on. I couldn't get a hook set when I did feel a bite and "The Force" must not be with me on reading fishing line, because I clearly suck at that, BUT anything worth doing is worth working for and he said he's been crappie fishing all his life, SO I am still determined to learn how to catch these fish, moreso after the schooling that I got today.

Thanks again Glenn for your hospitality, eagerness to teach others and a great trip. My son and I are very greatful for our afternoon in your company! And that's a sweet Stratos you've got!

I already made this post once, from my phone with a picture attached but something must have happened in the posting process, because it apparently didn't show up. I'll try to post the picture again since I'm posting the thread again.

Yep hang in there, Glen will make it look easy. If he’s ever busy and you’d like to go give me a pm and I’d be happy to take you and your boy out. Boat in shop, but when she gets out I’m game. Glen will tell ya, I’ll put you on fish like he does.

We weren't casting, we were shooting docks. I was using a 7' Lews and he was using a 5'6" or 6' casting rod. He was pitching jigs just like a bass fisherman would pitch a pig and jig. He could get em WAAAAY under the docks and make about 2 casts to my one. I've never seen anybody pitch a crappie jig like that and he's a pro at it.

    Casting a jig ? What’s that !

Eveybody to their own but I just purchased a pro angler rod 5’5 for shooting docks and multi purpose.and will be purchasing a couple more . It’s the best feeling rod that I have ever owned .and it’s super sensitive and had a back bone like a saw log.
