I've bass fished all my life. I crappie fish this past weekend at Lake Ray Roberts. The lake was at 78 degrees and I know crappie should have been at 6 to 15 ft but I couldn't find them at that depth. They were in brush piles 20 to 25 ft deep. Can anyone explain that? I caught less than normal but it just seemed odd where I was catching them.
Thanks

Another thing about the Crappie at those shallower depths --- they are sometimes chasing those Shad schools.. Water Clarity and bright sun take the Crappie deeper but Oxygen and water temp will hold them where they are comfortable. Also structure, structure, structure.

I'm up in the Panhandle water temps here as of Friday was 70-75. The majority of the crappie was still suspended at 10'-15' over brush in 30 fow. I did manage to catch some in trees in 6-10 fow. Right now I'm having to go thru 10+ dinks to get a keeper. We just had a pretty strong cold front blow thru this weekend so hopefully water temps have dropped to mid to hi 60s. Should help the fishing.

I won't get to go crappie fishin again until the 20th. Water temperatures should be lower then at Ray Roberts so I'll try again then. I have a bass tournament at Lake Fork this weekend. Wish me luck. Lol...
