Default Solo crappie fishing/scouting trip 9/18/17

I had no takers on a crappie trip today, so I went scouting alone. I fished an area of the lake that we haven't bothered much all year and I can see why people are avoiding this area. Very few fish could I find. I did find a couple of big schools of crappie, but could only get 2 fish to bite from each school. Grin.

I changed baits often to see if it was a color/size thing, but the fish just didn't want to play much today. I caught enough for supper, but that is about all. Bobby Garland lures in Green Thunder, Full Moon, S&P and a Cicada Minnow Mind'R. I tried Bass Assassin Limetreuse Glow and S&P Phantom with chartreuse tail. No bites on these lures.

The fish that I found were in 17-18 feet of water and the first two keepers were on brush. The second two keepers were on a hogback ridge dropoff with a stumps nearby. I used 1/16 oz jigs to catch the fish. I did try 3 different docks to see if any were on docks, but not on the docks that I tried. Grin. I even tried one bluff, but to no avail.

Water temp was 76.6 when I started and 80 when I quit at midday. TVA running 20,000 + CFS today. That's it on crappie until next week. I may sneak in a tailwaters trip or two for whatever will bite, but will be fishing with Foley Spoons and swimbaits. I had to stand on my head to take that last pic. LOL

Well they made you work for em, sounds like you tried it all. I didn't do much better today at Sardis pulling cranks either. May have just been one of those days. Water was slick as glass down there though. Fish I was catching were about the same depth, no one color in particular.
