You know buddy ... I'm thinking all (well, almost all) of those 12-15" Slabs, that we were catching a couple Springs ago, were decimated in numbers. And now we're seeing the bulk of the population of the spawns from 3-4yrs ago, and they haven't gotten past the 9" mark just yet.

I caught my 7 from my last trip ... deep early, then shallow (& in the shade) during the midday hours. Totally backwards from the norm. Still catching them around, on, or close to fallen timber ... but, not always on my normal ones. And I actually caught the 3 biggest of the bunch in a shaded spot with probably less than 5' of water and no brush or deadfalls nearby.

They've been pretty hard to pattern all year long, though I haven't really fished it as often as I normally would have, so maybe it's me & not the fish ??

Next year, the dink to keeper ratio is gonna be even higher, once that 10" size limit goes into effect. But, hopefully in another year or two after that ... we'll start seeing more 11-13" fish. I just hope they put creel clerks out in full force, next year !!

I'm headed out there tomorrow. Never fall fished. Gonna try it out. Lots of drinks means lots of keepers eventually. Catching them is still fun regardless. Gonna try long lining becau Dr that is what I do. Especially since it sounds like there is no real strong pattern.

We went for 5 hours today. Hardly anyone on the water. No wind. Perfect, except no fish either. Actually we caught 6 or 7 crappie. Put them all back. A bass, catfish, and a few gills. Regardless, I had fun.

Actually, I used to see creel clerks at the Settlers ramp, every now & then ... back a couple of decades ago ... but, yeah, you're right about there not being much in the way of "enforcement" on the lake. I can't remember the last time I saw a CO boat active on the lake.
I've fished it since it opened ... and I think I've been checked maybe 2-3 times since then. And that's been back when you could get a boat sticker showing compliance with the boating laws. And I've actually only seen the CO boat out patrolling a few times in all those years.

I fished it this afternoon. Got on the water around noon hit my normal spot and could not get a bite casting a jig. Luckily I had my long rods and minnows with me. I rigged from 3 to 6 and put 14 in the box. They seem a little spread out right now. I caught fish from 9-15 deep in 15-30 fow . Some was on brush and some just hanging out on a break line not on any structure.
