Default Lake Verret 9/12/17 - Attackapas Landing

I took my Father fishing at Lake Verret Tuesday and put together a decent mess of fish.
We launched at the Attackapas landing and headed west to the canal on the south end of the lake.....I am not sure the name.
We fished in the canal until about 12:45 and put five keeper sacs in the live well with two bass.
They were caught on road runners with a blue plastic body.
The old man then wanted to find a few catfish for dinner so we eased out the canal and headed west to the point trying to stay protected from the NE wind and managed to 5 good cats and two bream.
We threw back about 10 smaller catfish that had some length but were skinny, skinny.

In the canal we fished anywhere from 4-7 feet of water - the sacs were caught off the same lay down
The catfish and bream were caught with night crawlers anywhere from 2-4 ft of water on the sunny side of the cypress trees.
It was good to take him fishing and even better it was on a Tuesday without much boat traffic on the lake.

Good mess of fish. Even better since you caught them with your father. Congratulations!

Very good report and even better that you were able to take your dad fishing.

The canal runs parallel with the road to the Attackapas launch....hwy 401
It is a few hundred yards directly west of the launch. There are handful of camps, a stretch of cypress trees, the canal that runs north and south, and then another stretch of trees before a point where the lake is oriented more north to south.

The landing is pretty nice and has a good bathroom and bar at the front but this launch does fill up quickly on the weekends especially in the summertime.

Due west of the landing is Bayou Magazile.....as you enter Magazile from Verrett, immediately to your left going South is 4 Mile Bayou...follow Magazile West and you will run into Belle River which runs North/South.....good fishing all those places.....follow 4 Mile Bayou South and it will lead you to Grassy Lake.....

Yes, on the weekend crowd at Attakapas Landing.....I only launch there during the week.....

I believe that canal is called Willow Canal. Well whatever the name, you did good especially taking your Father with you. You need to do more trips like that.

Gene, Willow Tree Canal is the first short dead end canal just North of the landing on the East side of Verrett....so you would make a hard right turn leaving the launch to go there...
