    Default Bait&Tackle shops

After reading the 5 page topic on a new bait shop in Missippi I got to thinking about who has reliable live bait & tackle in your area for guys who are fishing new areas.

Normally when I head out to fish Wheeler Lake. I stop at West End Chevron just West of Athens on Hwy 72. They are always open 30 minutes before daylight. They sale minnows by the cup for $7 A cup contains between 4 -6 dz. They also carry a selection of BG & Bandits

Wish we could get some better bait shops near where I fish.

Perfect way to sell minnows no handling and a cup is a cup. Had a place in Bowling Green that used to do this.

Jet pep in gville is open 24hrs they keep loads of bg and most the time they have minnows. Kellers in grant/new hope opens a 4am on 431 before gville damn, and i think its jet pep right before you get to scottsboro on 72 opens at 4. I fish gville and scottsboro so i always have an early morning place to go. Thank the Lord.

I only know of one place to get minnows near the upper end of Wheeler, between Huntsville and Mooresville. That's the gas station at Swancott Rd near Mooresville. I was in there this past weekend and I bought every minnow he had, which was less than the 1/4 lb I paid for. Does anyone know if the second gas station they built at the same spot on Swancott Rd carries bait/minnows? I've never been in the newer one. Or, do you know any other place on the Huntsville side of the river to get them? I live in Madison and work on Redstone Arsenal. I usually leave from one of those two places and fish from Limestone Bay to upriver toward Huntsville. There just aren't many places to get minnows in this area. I may have to resort to a cast net or buying "rosy reds" (which are just Tuffies with a recessive gene) from pet stores.

That Jet Pep is also called the Skyline Mini Mart, 15147 Us Highway 72, Scottsboro, AL 35768

    (256) 574-3255

Once it gets cool, they always have minnows. I called and they said that they would have minnows starting 15 Sep. They open at 0400. I've had great luck with their bait over the years.

FYI: I haven't bought bait at a bait shop in years. I get all my bait at Petco. (Petsmart is also good.) They don't carry minnows, but they have a much better selection of bluegill bait.

If you have a decent pet store in your area, check them out.

Thanks! I've been in Buster's few times. I used to live near UAH so it was close for me. I wasn't sure if they sold minnows though. Good to know. The good news is, the Chevron on Swancott whose minnows I bought out last weekend has restocked. I wasn't sure how soon they would.
