    Default Just checking in!

Hey guys, just to let you all know me and my family are doing fine. Thanks for all the text and fb messages asking about me. I will probably be taking off work the next couple of days b/c I probably will not be able to get back home if I leave. My area is under a mandatory evacuation but me and a few neighbors are staying. We are high and dry at my house and still have electricity at this time. Thanks again and prayers to all of the ones that are being affected by the storm.

Dwayne are you situated on top of a salt dome somewhat like Avery Island? Whatever the reason it's nice to be one top of a mountain when the valleys flood. Do you have a back up generator.

A generator sure is nice! A generator also makes you realize how cheap we buy our usual electric!

Hey pawpaw, not sure what we sit on top of, other than a high ridge. My neighbor dug a pond years ago and he was 30 feet deep before he hit water! Most places in Louisiana will hit water at 5 to 6 feet deep. I do have a generator, not a big house generator but one that should be big enough to run the TV and the freezers should I need it. Have flirted with the ideal of a house generator for years, maybe I can talk Angie into it now! lol So far we still have electricity and the rain has been off and on but not heavy.

I'm on the Teche Ridge in the far northeast part of Lafayette parish. Very high ground where the house is, the driveway is not the case in one part where it crosses a coulee draining into the Vermilion River. Coulee backs up when the river is high. River rising:

Another 3.19 inches of rain forecast tonight, than another 2.55 inches forecast tomorrow. More to follow. River will break flood stage. Flood water on the edge of the low spot of the driveway at a river height or 18'. Ann is staying home the rest of the week. I'll be going back and forth to school. Classes canceled this afternoon, and along with the Labor Day holiday next Monday, puts my students behind. Them, as well as me, will be putting in overtime to stay on schedule.

I know some say this is a "fishing site", but this thread is to discuss topics outside of who caught fish, where, and what on. Just as the previous shoot the bull thread.
