There it is in black and white. USCG regs.

Following are the legal requirements for using an inflatable:

The PFD must actually be worn to meet the USCG carriage requirement for having one PFD onboard per person—unlike inherently buoyant life jackets, which are not required to be worn at all times (except by children) but which must be readily accessible.

I don't see it written in the La. regs. as being "have to wear" to be acceptable. It just says Type I, II, III, IV.

My inflatable is a type I and as far as I'm concerned weather inflatable or not, all passengers in my boat will wear a PFD of some sort while the boat is underway.

Me too JR! But I would probably be ok just kneeling too! lol
PPG, that is probably what Jlaughlin was referring to, that it was NOT in the LA regs. As I stated before, I WILL wear mine all the time, too comfortable not to!

Wise decision Dwayne, accidents happen so fast. I see way too many people leaving the landing without their PFD on. They will suit up the kids and then leave the landing without theirs. Just doesn't make sense especially in small boats.

You are correct PPG! I lost a buddy a year back because he wasn't wearing his PFD when he hit something and got thrown out of the boat.

Yea, you have to wear it. Fortunately for me, I had a conventional vest in the boat also and was not given a ticket. Game warden said if that's the only one you have in the boat, you have to be wearing it.

Just hurt my pride....but, it was my first time ever overboard...all trying to save 50 cents worth of tackle and not wanting to break off & re-tie...for every action there is a re-action....I pulled on a submerged bush and the boat went the other way...good news is, I was not hot the rest of the day.....first time I had to use my fold up ladder on the back of the boat...
