I was going to use a large 6" steel nail for the counter weight but thought it might rust over time and just fall out. I figured the galvanized nail wouldn't rust and if I used 4 (2 in each ene) I'd get close to the same weight. I like the decoy weights though. I was being cheap and decided to go with the 1oz. egg weights (4 for $.98 at Walmart).
Crappie, specs, freckles, slabs...call them what ever you want! I'll just call them delicious!

What kind of wood do ya reckon he uses? I'm thinking I will try to make some of these. I have some surplus Cyprus that I might try!

I have seen the noodles at Walmart and the Dollar store for $1, I'm sure you can get most of the items there also. Great Idea to save money this DIY Marker Buoy.

It is an interesting idea. On YouTube there are quite a few videos on how to make your own. I went to WalMart to gather materials to make my own and found a two-pack of markers for $5.50 or so. Skipped the construction project and just bought them.

I have made them myself, but for the money you can't beat those already made up at Walmarts
