I open the 2 compartments where I have batts to let vent, this thread is a good reminder to check the water levels in mine.

We have had way more than 1 blow up in our trucking Business over the years. You smell eggs beware. Don't make a spark. BOOM!!

some good stuff right there guys....opening up the onboard charger compartment when I get home and letting it get some air. Q? Would letting your boat sit in a carport type shed make it heat up too terrible bad and cause a situation like this??

Wouldn't cause this particular problem. One thing when it's hot like it is now it is harder to charge batteries. The hotter it is the harder it is for them to take the charge.

On a lighter side, earlier this year, I sat down on my lawn mower to start cutting grass. When I turned the key, I felt an explosion under my butt!!. Talk about scare the crap out of me. Waited a while, then lifted my seat, and there was my battery with the top blown off.

I have a mk 345 pc and a mk 230 pc in my boat. The 230 will occasionally make a hissing sound about 30 mins after I plug them up after the trip. I just unplug it for 15 mins and it does fine. Never had a problem with the 345.

I have never had and sulfur smell, or acid leaching though.

ALWAYS vent the battery compartment though. That stuff gets hot in there.

Does the acid get weak over time the reason for changing it?
