    Default Soft Hackle Marabou

Well I saw this kind of new item and wanted to see what the heck right? I got one and have been looking at it for a little while now and decided to give my first thought a shot to see how it looked. What I wanted to do was use one feather to make the tail and then wrap the rest of the feather to make the body all the way to the head. Anyway I am not particularly proud of this sample, but it was my fist, lol! Anyway want to see what you guys think of the idea and maybe you have more ideas for this kind of feather?

Also know the picture and the feather are the same one, just photos taken at different time and different settings, but still only one I have used so far.

    Default Soft Hackle Marabou

Skip, I've been tying some 'bou lately and wondered about a use for the remainder of a feather after cutting off the tip also.

Do you split the remainder in half and wrap those pcs?

    Looks pretty nice!

No! I don't even use the tips of marabou, but I keep them in a bag and will use them at some point. I only use the long barbules that I pull off the stem. This is totally different kind of tie. I use this method if I am tying some of the really small tiny type marabou. The Book Quills and Extra Select is what I use mostly and just the longer parts as the tip has stem in it and my marabou ties do not usually have and stem. I will use a few tips if they are really fine stems in that feather. That's only 5% to 10% of the time. SO 90% of my marabou ties have no stem at all in them as I want all the action I can get and the stem takes a little away. This kind of tie is totally different.

Hate to say it, but I have not been on the water this year yet. I will try to get a container that I can look at it wet in. Will try to get back on that later.

I like it a lot. Might need to try it with some of my chicken feathers.

You know guys I also have a Roadrunner that I tied a couple years ago and did it like this. What happened was this guy told me he had some marabou that he would never use and ask if I wanted it. Well sure I did so he sent me several packs of mini marabou so I decided to show him what he could have done with this material. Anyway here is that little Roadrunner tied with on mini marabou feather. So sometime you just need to look at something and see what you can figure out how to use it best.
