Nice slab

Took the day off work to go do some fishing at Old River this morning. Started off bass fishing around 630. Missed a couple then decided to try to drown some shiners on a raft I've had luck on in the past. Immediately started having bites. Pulled in 2 keepers, a few throw backs, and had at least 5 get off or tangled up in the brush underneath within the first hour. By 930, the wind switched and the bite turned off immediately. Moved around a little until 11 with no luck. Decided to give the same raft another try before lunch and immediately started catching again. Put 4 in the boat before running out of shiners and heading back to the landing for lunch with MOslab and SkippaChippa. Picked up 25 more shiners thinking I'd get back on 'em. Hit the same raft around 1:30 and picked up my biggest of the day which measured 15 1/2 inches and a probably a couple lbs. Thought I'd be able to catch some more after the great start but I didn't have another bite for the last 30 minutes I stayed. It was a strange day but worth burning a day of vacation. Once the water drops down to 17-18 ft the fishing should be better and easier to find them.

prefers shiners thanked you for this post
Thanks. One of my better ones. They've got some big ones in Old River. Tough to find them at this water level though. B/w me, MO, and someone I talked to at the landing who had been spider rigging we only had about 15 keepers. I'll probably wait a couple weeks to go back when the water is lower and out of the woods.

LSU thats some good fish! I haven't fished old river a lot so I've been waiting on a report and the water level, I need to learn that place. Me and the wife will probably go in a couple weeks and give it a try.

My dad has been bringing me there since I was in diapers and we've always had a camp there so I know it pretty well. If you wait a couple weeks it should be easier to find them. If you can't find them, bring some night crawlers and find a drop off to tight line for catfish. Seems like they're always biting.

I've actually only been to Henderson once but I saw one on MO's boat yesterday and might put one on mine. I was considering selling it after the issues I've had but it ended up being fuel line issues. Replaced all the lines, cleaned the carburetors, replaced the filter and it ran great yesterday. Might hold on to it for a while.
