Very nice jig!

I took a chapter out of Crappie Addicts book on the simple shad and working on some myself. Found a similar material to his polar fiber with a streamer hair that is Alaskan Mountain sheep. It works pretty well but a little expensive considering I only got 6 jigs out of it. My boy and I will try them out tomorrow night below Truman Dam.

Very nice jig!
If using synthetic hair why not try to find the original Craft Fur and it had a color that went from Black to Silver or maybe they call it white, but I still have a little and it sure would look good as a shad imitation and I do know the crappie love it! I did find one on eBay that may be the one I am talking about, but I do not know. Just know one guy on there has the Black and White color craft fur.

The polar fiber that crappie addict did his with is a craft fur but don't know where he got it. I found 3 pkgs in Stock of the gray on fish USA and bought all 3. Been looking elsewhere but it seems the supply has dried up.

That's goodlooking right there! Mine is Polar Fiber(fibre) Metz Umpqua brand. I would always pick some up where ever I could find it. I think Cabela's was the last place I got some. I have shopped at fabric store as well. I found some in tan one time. there are some different types of yarn at places like Walmart and Hobby Lobby, that I have unraveled and brushed. Works fairly well. The yarn isn't as good for fly fishing because it seems to hold onto the water. There is a local jig maker that has been using it for years. It took me a few years to figure it out exactly. Several other materials and hairs definitely work well but the polar fiber is my favorite for sure!

How many jigs do average out of a pkg of the polar fiber? I just got it in yesterday and looking forward to using it.

Great looking jig
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
its a shame that the original stuff and that black to silver/white is not available any longer, crappie sure love that stuff! A guide here on Toledo Bend told me about it and said it's about all he uses, but think now he just uses other colors of craft fur. Oh and he ties it in full length, LOL!
