    Default Need some charger help

Some history here first. My boat came new with three batteries all were exide group 24 dual purpose. After three years two of them went bad so I replaced them with two deep cycle wal mart group 27 for my Trolling motor. I have some new electronics and I want them to have their on dedicated battery and I have a group 24 deep cycle wal mart battery that is almost new it self. My question is if I buy another 2 bank on board charger will it be able to charge two different batteries at the same time. Both will be group 24. One is a dual purpose and the other is a deep cycle

I'll let the experts, like CatFan, give you the skinny .... but, a 2 bank onboard charger will easily take care of any size wet cell battery, whatever series they are. IMHO

Dual purpose batteries are just deep cycle / starting battery hybrids ... so they should charge up just like a reg. starter battery or a deep cycle battery.

My 2bank charger is used to charge a 24series starting battery & a 29series deep cycle at the same time. I'd recommend getting a two bank that has 10amps per bank .... something like the Minn-Kota MK220D

Thanks. I was just worried I might over charge one and less on the other

Nah ... each bank is independent of each other. They lower the output as the battery gets closer to full charge, then go into maintenance mode.

Just don't have a 24 & a 27 hooked in parallel or in series ... when you do that you need both batteries to be same series & close to the same age, otherwise the lesser battery pulls the greater/newer battery down to it's level.
Thanks NIMROD thanked you for this post
