    Default garmin transducers

I must be a little on the SLOW side in regards to Garmins transducers. Are they using SI and regular 2D to simulate down scan. All of a sudden all information to down scan is now called "clear view". If I understand correctly the Gt transducers have the seperate down scan module instead of the simulated one. Also the higher the number the better the down scan picture. Is Garmin trying to slip it over on less informed fisherman. From all I have seen and read .....there is a difference. I hope someone can clear this up As I would like to put another unit on the front of my boat. Already have GPS on the existing unit. Thanks for any input you may want to offer. This is the place to come BEFORE you conctact your product CS..............crappie1133

Have no idea what the "higher the number" he is referring to is about, never heard of that.

Clearvu is a blended image similar to basically what all Hbird DI is/was except Mega and older dedicated Di units. Garmin just won the lawsuit with Navico though, might not hurt to wait a while and see if Clearvu doesn't go away and they don't go back to putting Gt transducers with Echomaps and Strykers.

Ahhhh no, Wilbur ... I think he's referring to the kHz number being higher gives a clearer image, as in 800kHz vs 455kHz

Wilbur is right. The shots I have seen, it appears that the higher the transducer number, the better the picture( ex- the gt-52 is better than the gt-30 etc.) Are all gt transducers better at showing DI and if so why want Garmin swap them out, I don't understand this. I would feel better about the whole situation if they would. Thanks for everyones input. That's why this is the best forum on the net......... crappie1133

First of all, I believe the different ducers have different capabilities for doing tasks to XXX degree. I have been told that the GT52HW is better at showing soft targets than say a GT50HW. Perhaps they are, IDK. Probably someone like Brian (BBG) would be a great resource, espec if you are talking possible purchase. Keep in mind two things, HB used blended DI on many of their units for years--didn't hear a lot of negative comments. Two, a fellow posted some shots of his CV dv shots on here a few weeks ago. They looked pretty darn good to be from an 'inferior' system. Would I rather have dedicated dv/di--Yes. I do have it. But mostly I would seek out someone like Brian that can and will give you knowledgeable advice. Rickie may clock in, Todd Driscoll is around some too.

it is just like Humminbird with their transducers XNT 9 SI 180 T and XHS 9 HDSI 180 T , the HDSI ducer gave you a better view then the XNT 9 SI ducer did !!! Garmin does not offer a transducer swap out that I know of but here is the difference in the Garmin transducers spec now as all knows there is a difference in prices as welll ; and the GT-30- TM does not offer Traditional sonar !!!
