Sorry, but if I was fishing this location, by myself or with my family, the old man would be put in his place, period.
Recently, I pulling up to a public dock right here on Ky Lake, and this cat has 5 or 6 rods dropped all over the place, 3 tackle boxes, and proceeds to tell me to go somewhere else. Now, this is not a fishing pier, which there is a public pier in this same bay, and a small park adjacent also.
Anyway, I just went ahead with my plans to moor my boat. There is also an adult with 3 kids on the 2 dock ends, and the this father is doing donuts on a jet ski less than 50 ft from the dock.
The fisherman proceeds to start cussing me, calling all kinds of names. I tied off the back of the boat, turned off my motor, and his mouth is still running. I stood up, walked to the front, tied off my boat, and immediately jumped out on the dock.
Mr Bada@$ ran to the other end of the dock. I instructed the POS to stay over there if he was smart.
This is a prime example of alot of people in this day and age. You call their bluff, and 98% of the time, they head the other direction. These type of people have been bluffing or bullying folks their entire life, I'm just the wrong person to try that with.
I have a concealed carry permit, and carry on out of town trips, but I never have it in the boat. Never felt the need for it.

Personally, i would deescalate and leave if the conversation went this way, but would be well documented on one of my two go pros i always have with me. This would be turned over to law enforcement. Luckily the owners of two brush piles i like to fish on my local lake come out and have a good hour or two conversation with me. Now after multiple conversations, they have told me where they put more brushpiles.

It's pretty stupid to try and push someone from a fishing spot ( you might get a serious whuppin) or worse shot. Its also pretty stupid to brandish a weapon unless bodily harm is unavoidable, in most cases walking away would solve it.As for comparing open carry to brandishing, your not brandishing by simply having a holstered firearm in the open, providing its legal in your state, brandishing is pulling the firearm, and in some jurisdictions, putting your hand on the holstered gun.
An intelligent person knows their limitations,a stupid person, well they are just plain stupid, let the DNR handle the situation,in all likelihood they have dealt with this same individual before, take pics/ record, motor off and call it in,fish on!

Seems like the best thing to do would be to initially not back down, as it is your right to be there....and when things escalate, begin recording the incident. When it is apparent he won't quit harassing you, rather than brandishing a weapon, leave the spot and then call the authorities. Tell them the story and show them the video and let them go handle it. I'm not sure who collects the fine money (whether its local DNCR or local police) but it's almost 100% certain they will not give a warning and will give them a hefty fine. Then go back and fish the spot after they make them leave. The satisfaction of the fine and winning on principle would make it worthwhile for me. JMO

Crazy Cajuns, Both going to court now over a fishing spot on one of the largest lakes in the state.
If you dont have time to do it right the first time, when are you going to find time time to fix it.

The guy that started the trouble is a guide over on that side of the lake and this is not the first time they have had trouble with him! Any guide that acts like that should be dealt with! Like I said not the first time he's been in these issues. Just sayin!

Cwp is a good thing, have had one since 1970's. Will not draw my weapon unless someone points gun at me. Life is to short to go to prison for 20 or more years for murder. Have walked away from hotheads several times over the years. Use common sense, when you argue with a fool, you become a fool. A graceful exit is always best, no fishing spot is worth shooting someone over...!
