Used aluminum.![]()

Hey fellas , I'm back after my usual hunting season break from fishing. Hope everyone is doing well and getting their hands slimy already. I am looking for some advice or layouts to build a PVC umbrella holder to attach to a high back boat seat or to the seat pedestal. The wife is expecting number 2 in September and we are making a Toledo bend trip in the beginning of July. I want to have one of these rigged up by then so she will be more comfortable in the boat. Any advice or tips on building this would be greatly appreciated.

I used PVC and made essentially the same setup as pictured, as a "base". On the T section where the umbrella is placed, I added a section of PVC about 3ft long. I placed the lower section of the umbrella's pole into that PVC pipe and drilled thru both for a cotter pin ... after measuring the height of the complete umbrella setup, so that it was high enough for me to sit & fish, but low enough to gain the most shade around me. The cotter pin serves to keep the umbrella from being blown out of the PVC pipe, should a gust of wind catch it. (which actually DID happen, prior to adding the cotter pin)
Sorry, I do not have pictures of the setup ... but, it's a fairly simple job, requiring minimal tools and expertise. 2 T's - 6 ft of 1.5" PVC pipe - a cap for the bottom of the T that sits on the carpet - PVC glue (if you want the holder to remain in the L configuration) - sandpaper - cotter pin (if desired).
I chose not to glue my horizontal & vertical PVC poles into the T's ... so that I could take them apart, along with the umbrella, and store them in my rod locker until needed. My partner, who also made the same setup, did glue his together ... and so his has to be transported either in the truck or bottom floor of the boat, and hooked to his seat pedestal (while fishing) whether the umbrella is inserted or not.

I used aluminum for strength as the umbrella i use is a heavy duty welders umbrella. I should put a pin, but try not to fish in strong winds. If the winds pick up i take my umbrella down and leave.![]()
