Default Chickamauga Lake Crappie report 6/13/2017

My cousin, Levon Smith from Dayton, TN came down this morning to crappie fish with me and take some home for the freezer. We had a great morning of fishing. We had our first limit of keepers by 7:49. The 2nd limit of keepers by 9:00 AM and we fished 54 more minutes and caught 10 more that were released. Off the water by 10:00 and beat the heat.

We fished vertical structure for the first 10 keepers this morning and then off shore structure for all the rest of the fish that we caught. Bobby Garland 2" plastics ruled the day. Levon got us started with a few keepers caught on Blue Ice before he broke this lure off and then changed colors. He changed colors several times today. I fished with Chicken on a Chain without a bite, switched to Emerald Shad BG 2" and caught a couple, then Blue Ghost Mo-Glo for several fish. When I put on a Gumdrop Slab Slayer 2" with a Blue head in 3/32 oz weight, the crappie turned on this bait like a chicken on a June bug. Grin. It was hot hot hot. But, I only had 5 of them and I broke off two. I gave Levon one to fish with, I have one on a rod/reel and one spare until I get an order in to Crappietown.com. I hope that Betty Rutledge has these in stock.

We didn't take time to take very many pics and we caught bigger fish than what we did take time to shoot. It seems to me that the crappie are stacking up on the summer time off shore structures and I love this time of year. We fished in 15-25 feet of water all morning. No wind, 15,000 CFS, and we didn't have to run far to find fish. The only drawback to our morning of fishing is that my trolling motor steering motor finally died. The part has been ordered and supposed to be in later this week. Let's hope that it gets in soon. I"m going to park the boat until it is repaired. The main power motor is fine. It will turn on and off, but the steering motor is shot. It won't turn left or right. I manually steered this morning. Thankfully, the wind was calm and although it was a hassle, we still caught a ton of fish. Grin.

DK you know if you get the hankering till you are all fixed up, all you have to do is call.... My boat will be in the water faster than you can say flibbidygibbit! I'm off this weekend and I do want to make a trip out, but we may have to make room for my youngest son, who is only 30...
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6

I never know your schedule. I hope to get my TM repaired before too long. I may have some kind of withdrawal symptoms if I don't get it fixed soon.
