Default Chickamauga Lake Crappie report 6/06/2017

A very good afternoon of crappie fishing for Dr Phillip Gawthrop and myself. We landed well over 30 keepers, including 2 TARP sized fish. 14.1/8" Black Crappie and a 14.0" White Crappie. I think we might have one a tournament with our top 7 fish weights. 10 lbs for June on Chickamauga lake is pretty good. Two fish over 14" and 4 over 13".

The wind was out of the NE today a little over 5-8 mph and TVA running in excess of 45,000 CFS. The water was slightly stained from the deluge of rain that we had last night. Water temp today had fallen about 3 degrees from yesterday. It was 77.1 today and was over 80 degrees yesterday.

Again, our best lures were Bass Assassin Pro Tiny 2" S&P Phantom/chartreuse tail and Chicken on a Chain. I caught the black tarp crappie on S&P Phantom and the tarp white crappie on Chicken on a Chain. These lures were fished on 3/32 oz jig heads from Litewirehooks.com. Curtis Hobbs sells the best hooks for crappie fishing that I have ever used. We fished bluffs and off shore structure mostly today. We did hit a couple of docks and landed about 5-7 keepers off them. We lost a lot of good fish today by not using the net that was laying in the bottom of the boat. I mash the barbs down on the jigs that I use to make it easier to remove from the fish that I catch. I don't care if I lose a couple of good fish from time to time. Fish were deep and very subtle bites.

On one particular structure, we would cast upstream and let the current wash the jig down to the fish. Watching the line really paid off today. I would see the line stop moving downstream and I would set the hook and a fish would be on. Never felt the bite or the fish until he was hooked. Grin. I have learned much about fishing crappie in current in the past two trips. Always want to increase my fishing knowledge.

    Good for you guys!
Thanks for the neck relief on the pics

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there is no one out to get you
